The Flower Festival // Feria de las Flores is held every year in late July or early August in Medelln, Colombia’s second-largest city.
The festival, which features vibrant peasant parades, several flower competitions, festive folklore performances, flower shows, a horse fair, a parade of classic cars, live music performances, and more, is regarded as the most significant traditional cultural event in the city.
The traditional Silleteros Parade, which features huge wooden floats decked with hundreds of vibrant flowers, is the festival’s main attraction. The procession commemorates the time of historical slavery when peasants were compelled to act, among other things, “as a means of transportation” for the aristocrats who were driven to their territory while seated on the farmer’s animal.
Itinerary
Day 1 – MEDELLÍN |
Upon arrival at José María Córdoba International Airport, you will be met by our guide and transferred to the hotel. The transfer will take approximately 45 minutes with normal traffic. Our representative will assist you at the airport. On the way, he will provide useful information for your stay in Medellin.

This tour will take you to the most important tourist sites of the “City of Eternal Spring”. Explore downtown Medellin and the historic center. Listen to local musicians and traditional “Guasca” music while visiting Berrio Park. Panoramic tour of the most representative places of the city including El Poblado, La Milea de Oro with Provenza. Then we pass through the Alpujarra, Plaza de Botero and North zone. From there we move to visit the botanical garden where we visit the event of orchids, birds, and flowers where you can observe the diversity of flowers and appreciate more than 5,000 species of orchids, local crafts, gastronomic samples of the region, music, and lots of fun. |
DAY 3 – SILLETERA ACTIVITY IN SANTA ELENA |
Visit the municipality of Santa Helena, land where the flowers of Medellin are born and bloom. Learn all about the silletera culture, its history and traditions, within the visit we will visit a traditional sillera farm and we will be able to see the handmade elaboration of a silleta, intangible heritage of UNESCO that has been passed from generation to generation. |
DAY 4 – AUGUST 12: GUATAPE & PEÑOL |
Pick up at the hotel, transfer to the municipality, we made our first visit to the Old Peñol, a replica of what was the old Guatape, we made a walk. DAY 6 – SILLETEROS PARADE + REFRESHMENTS + SOUVENIRS |
The big day has arrived to experience the Silletero Parade and to participate in this great cultural inactive. Get ready to spend an unforgettable moment. Transfer to the silleteros parade to the silleteros box where we can appreciate the silleteros parade and live the sillera culture of the city, this is the central event of the fair, with this parade the acts of the fair end. More than 500 farmers display millions of flowers carried in silletas on their backs, weighing up to 70 kilos. It is a tradition that lasts from generation to generation. The silletas compose beautiful landscapes, portraits and messages with native values. The route of this parade is two kilometers long.
