INTRODUCING THE CARIBBEAN GUILDER (XCG)
Why the Change?
On March 31, 2025, Curaçao and Sint Maarten will officially transition from the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG) to the Caribbean Guilder (XCG). This change is part of an effort to modernize and strengthen the monetary system, ensuring financial stability and independence for both countries.
While the currency is getting a new name and look, its value remains exactly the same—1 ANG = 1 XCG. This means your purchasing power remains unchanged, and there will be no impact on prices, salaries, or bank balances.
What Does This Mean for You?
At Maduro Travel, we are fully prepared for this transition. Whether you’re booking flights, vacation packages, or making payments, our systems will automatically reflect the new currency without any disruptions.
✔️ Seamless transition – All prices and transactions will be displayed in the new Caribbean Guilder (XCG).
✔️ Paga Poko Poko balances updated – Your saved payments and installment plans will automatically convert to the new currency, with the same value.
✔️ No extra steps needed – You don’t have to do anything; we’ve got it all covered!
How Will This Affect Travel?
If you’re traveling abroad, here’s what you need to know about using the Caribbean Guilder (XCG) internationally:
✈️ Exchange Rates & Currency Conversion: Just like with the Netherlands Antillean Guilder, you may need to exchange XCG for other currencies when traveling outside Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Make sure to check with banks or exchange offices for updated conversion rates.
💳 Credit & Debit Card Payments: Most international credit cards will automatically convert your transactions from XCG to the local currency of your destination. However, always check with your bank for any potential foreign exchange fees.
🏦 ATM Withdrawals: If you plan to withdraw cash abroad, check if your bank supports the Caribbean Guilder or if withdrawals will be converted to a major currency like USD or EUR.
🛍️ Shopping & Expenses: In some Caribbean destinations, such as Aruba and Bonaire, businesses may still accept XCG, just as they previously accepted ANG. However, it’s always good to carry some USD or the local currency for convenience.
